Imagine a building at an undisclosed location in Moscow. Inside, a room that smells of paint, where the only sounds emerging are those of the artist’s indigenous brush strokes. This is exactly the scene of the first week of life documented by Olga Davydova - an artist who welcomed us to both her art studio where she paints and spends most of her time and to the world of fine arts. The atmosphere of her week is truly breathtaking.

Up until now, we mainly had the chance to absorb the atmosphere of life in the city of Ekaterinburg. We are now moving further west to explore another Russian city, Nizhny Novgorod (5th largest city in the Russian Federation). In her first set, Anya Lipman has portrayed this wonderful city both in sunlight as well as under the spell of clouds and rain. Anya’s photographs were very captivating and so we hope that we will see her next set on WoL very soon.

Igor Babic has documented his first week of life in such style that a mere look at the first images makes one want to explore them further. The unique atmosphere of the week is created through color photographs that exude calm, with the occasional use of black and white film completing the artistic set Igor’s playfulness with light, detail and color toning makes this week a worthwhile visit.

Along with his dog Koko, who is becoming a favorite pet with many members of WoL, is Honza Belej now one of the regular contributors to the project and we are starting to notice his rapid progress not only in photography skills, but also in the increasingly rich content in his weeks. His amusing way of portraying his life is very welcome and we are always eager to see what his dog comes up with next, as well as the dragging moments he has to spend during his long night shifts at work.

Santiago Robles’ week is a welcome addition to the project for three different reasons. As a citizen of Mexico, he has made it possible for a 34th country to take part in the project. Moreover, he documented his week based on the purchase of our WoL Magazine, assuring us that the work we put into publishing it is worth it. And lastly, he amazed us with the destination he chose to photograph for his first week of life. The Galapagos Islands (directly translated as Turtle islands) is one of the wonders of nature and home to a variety of animals impossible to see anywhere else in the world. We can only envy Santiago as he had the chance to get close and enjoy the experience of a lifetime. We are however more than happy to join him on his adventures and enjoy this exotic region thanks to his photography.
